From Belley to la Balme Gorges
THE NARROW PASS OF PIERRE-CHATEL
REMARKABLE LOCKS AND GORGES

Departing from Belley (capital of Burgey), you will ride on the ViaRhona on the right bank. On the other side, you will see the Parves mountain which overhangs the river. After having ride along the Ecassaz locks, fisherman paradise, you will cross the bridge to reach the Aviron base and its welcoming environment. 2 km after, you will discover amazing locks of Brens which allow recreational boating.
At Virignin, on you left, you will see the Pierre-Chatel fortress, a strategic observation post of the Rhone and Saint Blaise port. The bicycle path is temporary stopped here so you will road in the departmental 1504 in direction of Yenne to reach the incredible narrow pass of Pierre-Chatel and the remarkable gorges of la Balme.
Be careful, the road portion (D1504) between Virignin and la Balme needs to cross two tunnels. It’s not a good idea for a slope in family. Moreover, yellow safety vest and lighting are necessary.
